AI tools shorten the distance between an idea and an initial working draft. They do not shorten the distance between a draft and software that meets high safety, accuracy, and engineering standards.
#1. The Human-in-the-Loop Rule
Every line of generated code, whether circuit calculation logic or system architecture, must be read, understood, and defended by the engineer. Never ship code you cannot explain on a whiteboard.
An engineer's primary job is not typing speed—it is judgment, verification, and accountability for failure modes.
#2. Rigorous Verification Protocol
- Author precise type interfaces and contracts before prompting AI models
- Verify all mathematical derivations and sign conventions by hand
- Enforce automated linting, test suites, and boundary condition checks
- Never allow automated tools to fabricate performance metrics or benchmark results
